Suburban and tramway operating concessions in Melbourne, held respectively by Connex (Veolia Transport) and Yarra Trams (Transdev), were put out for renewal by the State of Victoria. These concessions include network operation and maintenance of rolling stock and infrastructure. The current concessions expire in November 2009. The new suburban services concession will be for 8 years, extendable to 15.
Keolis opted to submit simultaneously for both tenders and called in SNCF International to provide assistance in the areas of operations, marketing and sales. 3 SNCF experts were expatriated to Melbourne on 18 September 2008 for a 7-month secondment.
