The heavy maintenance assistance mission ended in May 2009. In all, ten experts from the Rolling Stock Division worked successively over a period of 12 months to help their Korail customer in highly technical areas such as traction engines, pantographs and mechanical engineering.
In France, 12 Korail railwaymen travelled to Bischheim in late 2009 for training on line maintenance operations on TGV Atlantique trainsets. With Korea's KTX1 high-speed trainsets now having chalked up five years of revenue service and close to 2 million km, Korail is already gearing up for the Level 4 heavy maintenance operations that will soon be necessary. The training course acquainted the Korail personnel with the methodology and planning of the different types of work they will themselves have to carry out from April 2010 onwards at their new workshop in Goyang.
